Registration

Players must attend at least half (4) of the scheduled regular season games to be eligible for playoffs.

We will be holding evaluations across two days. Please indicate which date(s) you will be attending. We encourage all registered players, especially new players, to attend one or both dates so that captains can evaluate for their draft picks. This will be a time to get back into the flow with some simple drills and then playing games and mixing up players for the rest of the time allotted.

The DCGBL seeks to foster a safe, positive environment both on and off the court that encourages athletic competition, camaraderie, and community for its participants. It is a fundamental principle of the  DCGBL that all activities, social and athletic, are conducted to be inclusive in nature.

No individual shall be excluded from participating in any of the League’s activities on the basis of sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, nationality, ethnic origin, political beliefs, athletic ability, physical challenge, HIV status, or gender identity.

As an athlete of the DCGBL, I agree to:

1. Compete with integrity, perseverance, and a sense of fair play;
2. Treat teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, and spectators with respect
3. Accept officials’ decisions with grace
4. Shake hands with opponents before and after each contest
5. Accept both victory and defeat with pride and compassion, never with being boastful or bitter

This Conduct Statement, Waiver & Release of Liability, and Photo and Electronic Media Release Waiver must be read, signed, and submitted to league officials prior to league participation. Note that your execution of the Waivers applies to your participation in any DCGBL games and events organized or sponsored by the DC Gay Basketball League.

The DC Gay Basketball League is comprised of members diverse in temperaments, skills, interests, and backgrounds, yet we join together into this greater organization. This Code of Conduct outlines the basic expectations of behavior as a participant of this League, to ensure our activities remain safe and enjoyable to all participants.

CODE OF CONDUCT:

1. Conduct should at all times be supportive of the mission statement of the League.
2. All players shall treat fellow players, referees, teams, spectators, neighborhood, and the community in a positive, sportsmanlike, and respectful manner while at any League-sponsored activity.
3. No player shall strike, shove, or use any unnecessarily rough tactics towards a player, referee, or spectator while at a League-sponsored event.
4. No player shall engage in objectionable demonstration of dissent, unsportsmanlike conduct, taunting or other disrespectful behavior at a League-sponsored activity.
5. No player shall question or dispute the decision of a referee unless acting in a respectful manner as the Captain of the team in question.
6. No player shall participate in playing basketball in any condition that would be a danger to him or herself, or to any other player, official, and/or bystander. This provision includes but is not limited to physical and/or mental impairment of any kind. A violation of this paragraph may lead to immediate expulsion from competition and will be referred to the Board for further consideration.
7. Enforcement of the Code of Conduct will be handled by the referees and captains at each court and, if necessary, the Board.

ENFORCEMENT:

1. For the first infraction, the referees will call a captains meeting at half court and discuss with both captains the behavior that needs to be addressed.
2. For the second infraction, the referees will consult with each other and may expel the player from the game. The team that loses the player will continue down one player until the ball changes possession.
3. For the third infraction, the referees will refer the matter to the Board for further action. Penalties may include multi-game suspensions or expulsion from the League.

I hereby grant permission to the D.C. Gay Basketball League (DCGBL), its successors, assigns, licensees, and legal representatives, the irrevocable right to use my name, picture, portrait or photograph on its World Wide Web site, in electronic media (e.g., video, CD-ROM, etc.) or in other printed publications or other forms of promotion without further consideration, and I acknowledge the DCGBL right to crop or treat the photograph at its discretion, and waive my right to inspect or approve the finished product, including written copy, which may be created in connection therewith. I hereby grant and convey unto the League all right, title and interest in any and all photographic images and video or audio recordings made by the DCGBL during my participation in DCGBL Activities, including, but not limited to, any royalties, proceeds or other benefits derived from such photographs or recordings. I also acknowledge that the DCGBL may choose not to use my photo at this time but may do so at its own discretion at a later date.

I also understand that once my image is posted on the DCGBL website, the image can be downloaded by any computer user. Therefore, I agree to indemnify and hold harmless from any claims the following: the DCGBL, the photographer, their offices, employees, agents and designees, including league officers.

The risks of injury from participating in the activities of this basketball league, although mitigated by the rules the league abides by, can be significant, serious, and potentially harmful.

I assume full responsibility for all risk of injury arising out of my participation in this league, even though these risks may arise out of negligence on the part of the League or others. I, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, agree to indemnify and hold harmless the DC Gay Basketball League (DCGBL), its officers, board of directors, officials, other participants, and sponsors, against any injury or disability to, or death of, any person and from any and all claims, actions, or suits, of any kind.

By signing below you have indicated that you have read the Waiver of Liability and assumptions of risk, fully understand the terms and conditions, and voluntarily agree to the terms stated above.

Trinity University requires all guest on campus be vaccinated against COVID-19 (vaccination = 2 weeks after final dose). The staff at the facility reserves the right to request proof of vaccination as needed to enter facilities on campus. Current CDC guidelines will be observed and enforced to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Note: You will not be permitted play if you are not vaccinated. If you are found to be unvaccinated after claiming to be vaccinated you will be banned from attending future games and a refund will not be issued.

The fee schedule for this season is as follows

• 10/17 - 11/7: $100
• 11/8 - 12/3: $120
